Here are my top 7 restaurants for you to try in Wellington! If you are looking for a bite to eat let me help you decide where to go!
La Bella Italia (Italian)
If you are like me and love Italian food, do not go past La Bella Italia. It is best to book a table before you go as this place does get very busy during lunch and dinner! I went along with my friend and luckily we had a booking, there was about 10 people there when we arrived but by the time we had finished our meal the place was full!
The staff were very friendly and attentive. If you don’t know what to have off their menu, just ask them for a recommendation!
My friend and I ordered a Calabrese Pizza to share as a starter. I just love how the Italians make a basic looking pizza taste so incredible! The Calabrese pizza had the tomato base, mozzarella, spicy calabrese salami and provolone dolce. It was so good, I wanted more!
For the main we both had the Pumpkin Ravioli. Delicious pieces of ravioli filled with pumpkin in a butter sauce. Again, I just wanted more, it was that tasty.
For dessert, well, I was actually too full to eat dessert there but that didn’t stop me from taking some home to enjoy later! I am a big fan of tiramisu so I bought myself a container of it which they have readily available. They must know people get full from their meals so they will have to take dessert home, clever huh?
Inside the restaurant they have a shop which they sell all sorts of Italian goodies, take your time and have a good look around!
All in all, I absolutely can not wait to go back there and try something different next time. I am determined to try almost everything on their menu.

Great India Restaurant (Indian)
I don’t have a very high tolerance for spicy foods so I always choose a mild one of the following dishes – the creamy Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma, Tikka Masala or Lamb Korma. The Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Tikka are also amongst my favorites. Of course I always order a naan bread as an accompaniment.
This restaurant offers a generous portion sizes and great service from the friendly staff.

The Tasting Room (European)
The Tasting Room is a pub as well as a restaurant and it’s situated in busy Courtney Place. They have a great outdoor area which is often full with people having a beer and a bite to eat in the summer.
They offer a great selection of food including tasting boards, fish n chips, burgers, pork ribs and beef wellington. I have eaten here twice and the first time I had their Charcuterie board and the second the Buttermilk Chicken burger which was so delicious!
They have a number of sides and starters to choose from as well as great kids menu.
Be sure to check them out!

Monsoon Poon Restaurant (Asian)
Monsoon Poon started over 20 years ago and they have a restaurant in Wellington as well as Auckland. It is pretty busy on any given night, so it’s a good idea to book ahead. The day I went, we actually didn’t book, and it was as if they had made us up a special table as we were squeezed in between to others. We had no privacy as all. So take note. But that was the only let down.
But apart from not having privacy on their very busy night, the food was delicious. My partner had the Firecracker Chicken as he is a big fan of spicy foods, and I had the butter chicken, always my go to. I should really learn to branch out a bit and try something new!
Thai Yellow Chicken, Malabar Fish Curry, Singapore Fried Noodles are amongst their menu. Reasonable prices and good service.
Address – 12 Blair Street, Wellington Phone – 04 803 3555
Dockside Restaurant (European)
Many people would agree with me that this is one of the top 7 restaurants in Wellington! Dockside Restaurant is located on Queens Wharf in town overlooking Wellington Harbor. On a beautiful sunny day this place is amazing as they have lots of tables and seating outside with sun umbrellas.
They offer venison cutlet, pork belly, salmon, roasted duck breast to name a few. As well as a wide range of starters and side dishes. Oh…and they make a delicious Baileys Cheesecake!
This place is quite often booked for weddings and private functions.

Boulcott Street Bistro (Kiwi, European)
This is another one where people would agree with me that Boulcott Street Bistro is in the top 7 restaurants in Wellington. It is set in a Victorian Cottage in town. It doesn’t have a wide variety to choose from on their menu but what they do have is absolutely delicious.
They offer fillet of beef, confit duck leg, potato gnocchi and crumbed calamari amongst a few other dishes.
Address – 99 Boulcott Street, Wellington Phone – 04 499 4199
Siem Reap (Cambodian)
This restaurant offers tasty food, fast and friendly service.
Cambodian food is spicy but not as spicy as Thai. Siem Reap actually has one of the best green curries I have ever had.
On their menu, you will find spring rolls, pork belly stuffed bao buns, grilled squid, red or green curry, ginger beef, king prawns and mee goreng.
Make sure you go and try this place!
